We are thrilled to share that Sonbuilt Custom Homes recently won two awards at the Canadian Home Builders’ Association of the Fraser Valley Housing Awards of Excellence! Our project, King Cottage Serenity Oasis, was recognized for both Best Innovative Feature and Best Outdoor Living Space—and we couldn’t be more honoured.

This project was born from a beautiful vision: our client’s deep love for nature and her dream of a tranquil sanctuary right in her backyard. From the very beginning, the goal was to create a space that brought the peaceful energy of the forest into everyday life.

The Innovative Feature award recognizes the unique elements that set this project apart. At the heart of King Cottage Serenity Oasis is a flowing stream, complete with cascading waterfalls, a shallow wading pond, and a closed-loop water system designed to be both efficient and eco-friendly. It mimics a forest stream, bringing the sound and movement of water into a private garden retreat.

What makes this feature truly innovative is its thoughtful integration of sustainability and beauty. Using a hidden filtration system, the water recycles continuously, requiring very little maintenance. The stones and materials were locally sourced, and the entire design was carefully crafted to support native plant life and promote biodiversity. It’s a stunning example of how functional design can live in harmony with the natural world.

The Outdoor Living Space award recognizes the sanctuary we created for rest, reflection, and connection with nature. Surrounded by mosses, ferns, and ornamental grasses, the pond area offers a cool, calming escape. Light dances on the water throughout the day, creating an ever-changing view. It’s a space where nature isn’t just admired—it’s experienced.

We are incredibly proud of the entire team who helped bring this vision to life. The King Cottage Serenity Oasis is a testament to our belief that a well-built home includes even the places you don’t see—and sometimes, those places are outdoors.
