Durability

High Performance Homes are built for generations, not decades.  The quality in your home is not just seen in the finishes, but also behind the walls in the areas you don’t see.

One area of high maintenance in many homes are the window wells.  We build our window wells out of concrete and they are designed to last several lifetimes.

The main floor of a Sonbuilt home is often built with engineered floor joists.  We use these joists because they are stronger, straighter, uniform in depth, and less susceptible to shrinkage.  As well, we glue and nail our subfloors to eliminate the possibility of future squeaks and noises.

All of our beams and headers are constructed with engineered wood because dimensional wood may shrink and twist and is also reduces future nail pops in drywall.  It’s just a better way of construction.  We use plywood instead of OSB for wall and roof sheeting because it holds nails and screws better and is less susceptible to punctures.

By using the airtight drywall approach (ADA), rather than poly, we prevent moisture and mold build up in walls.

Which one do you think will last longer?
